The Geography Challenge examines how authentic geographical issues are managed at Narawang Wetland at Sydney Olympic Park. It engages students through an on-line learning environment.
The Geography Challenge allows students to:
• Investigate one of the geographical issues relevant to land and water management Focus Area 5A3.
• Develop a Research Action Plan.
• Carry out field work and data collection.
• Use a variety of data sets and tools to carry out this research.
• Use I.T.C. to record, access, analyse and present data.
• Present geographical information in an appropriate format and demonstrate active citizenship.
• Develop decision making skills.
The Geography Challenge should be completed within a term or semester (usually much less)
It has 3 phases of involvement:
1. In class preparation and research using web based learning tasks.
2. Fieldwork at Narawang Wetland (including the use of Geographic Information System)
3. In class post field trip to complete data analysis and complete a RAP with recommendations for action.
